Welcome to LVCS Kindergarten
Our half day kindergarten classes are limited to 20 students per teacher. Students partake in our integrated language arts and math programs as well as physical education and music. For more individualized instruction on skills and concepts, we conduct a weekly after-kinder-day instructional program when five or six students at a time spend an extra hour with the teacher.
Our Regular Schedule 8:10 - 12:10
7:55 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. - Welcome
Kindergarteners will be met by teachers in the kindergarten play area at the front of the school. Students line up on the lines near their classroom number. Students and siblings are not permitted on the play structures.
8:05 a.m. - Teachers walk students to class.
8:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. - Instructional day
12:10 p.m. - Pickup
Kindergarten pick-up will take place in the hallway for rooms 3, 4 and 10. (Please wait outside the door to the teacher parking lot until invited into the hall.) For rooms 1 and 2 pick-up will be at the Kindergarten playground gate in front of school. (Please wait outside the gate.)
After School Groups Begin the first week of October through May.
12:10 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. - After Kinder-day small group instruction:
Students are identified by the kindergarten teachers for grouping and the group size is limited to 5 or 6 students per teacher. The program takes place in the regular kindergarten classrooms. Pick-up after this program is the same as regular day pick-ups.
Minimum day schedule is 8:10a.m. to 11:30a.m.
This allows Kindergarten parents to move through the valet pick-up areas before the rest of the school is released as parents need to park and come to the class pick-up locations.
Please see your child's classroom link for a complete outline of their day. Class links are available through the LVCS website. Our website includes information about each teacher's classroom, and tada lists that we use when planning activities with volunteer help, and more!
Assemblies & Events
Dragon Assemblies are approximately one hour in length and are held once a month. Students from various grade levels recite poetry, play instruments, sing and perform short plays. These assemblies give our students an opportunity to showcase their learning in a fun and entertaining way. Kindergartners also participate in Dragon Assemblies where they normally steal the show!
Kindergarteners at LVCS do not go on field trips, but do participate in many fun activities throughout the year. Some highlights of special kindergarten events at LVCS include: (Please see Mrs. Aderman’s list for a more complete school-wide activities highlight.)

Our kindergarten team plans collaboratively and addresses instruction in an integrated and often center based environment. Our Kindergarten program, like our elementary and middle school programs, is a standards based instructional program focusing on the California Department of Education (CDE) standards. The kindergarten teachers collaborate to develop a curriculum pacing plan beginning with the concepts and skills to be secured by children in kindergarten before moving on to first grade. Our program is very eclectic, drawing on many published and teacher created activities to meet the child where he/she is and proceed from there to where the child needs to go. Regular trimester assessments are administered in a one to one assessment environment. This allows teachers to gauge how students are progressing and target individual needs. This information is shared with parents through our standards based report cards at conference time in November and March. Teachers are available through our school website if you ever have questions about your child’s development and progress.
